Borussia Dortmund devise Erling Haaland plan amid Man Utd, Man City transfer interest

Borussia Dortmund will prioritise the Bundesliga over Champions League success in an effort to keep Erling Haaland according to a club chief.

The young striker played a key role as he fired the German side into the last eight in Europe this week.

Haaland scored a brace against Sevilla as he continues to shine on the biggest stage.

Domestically though Dortmund have struggled as they sit fifth having changed their manager earlier in the campaign.

They have Frankfurt, who occupy the final Champions League spot, in their sights.

But the club know that they must qualify for Europe's elite club competition if they want to keep hold of the Norwegian.

He is set to be the subject of huge transfer interest this summer with both Manchester clubs keen.

Haaland has a release clause, but that doesn't come into affect for more than 12 months.

Dortmund CEO Michael Zorc admits they could not replace a player of Haaland's quality and is ready to put the league first to ensure they are in next season's Champions League.

"I have never seen someone like him. We can search Europe-wide," he told Welt am Sonntag .

"If he ever left us somewhere, there would only be a handful of clubs, but we'll try to keep him as long as possible for sporting reasons."

Before he went on to add: "We don't want to play in the Europa League on Thursdays. We want to give our calling card in the Champions League.

Haaland averages almost a goal per game at Dortmund having moved to Germany just over a year ago.

United were keen on the player before he opted for a Bundesliga switch and could again return.

Their rivals City meanwhile could allow Sergio Aguero to depart this summer which would leave them looking to invest in their frontline.
