Borussia Dortmund chief offers transfer update on Liverpool-linked Jadon Sancho

Liverpool-linked winger Jadon Sancho is “very happy” at Borussia Dortmund insists their chief executive despite claims last month that the England international will quit the Bundesliga club this summer.

Anfield chiefs were put on red alert on February 12 when reports from Germany suggested that Sancho was set to leave Dortmund at the end of the current season with the Ruhr outfit ready to cash in on the £100million-rated teenager.

The following day, the Daily Mail ran a story saying that Liverpool had informed Dortmund of their desire to land Sancho in the next transfer window.

The article stated that Liverpool, who are about to enter into a club-record kit deal with Sancho's sponsors Nike, hope manager Jurgen Klopp's connections with Dortmund, who he led for seven years, will work in their favour in pursuit of the Londoner.

However, Dortmund's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has now told BBC Sport : “I think he has the feeling that the club does have a good future.

“In my opinion, I don't think he wants to leave.”

Sancho, who joined Dortmund for £10million from Manchester City in 2017, netted for the 14 time in 22 Bundesliga matches this season on Saturday with the only goal of the game at home to Freiburg but Watzke admitted it is “not clear what will happen.”

He added: “We have a very confidential relationship between us and him and his agents. We will discuss it.

“It's not a question of money. For us, it would be the best position if he stays at Borussia Dortmund.

“We have enough money. We want to have titles. I think this team has a lot more potential with Jadon than without Jadon.”
