Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc responds to Jose Mourinho claims

Jose Mourinho won’t be taking charge of Borussia Dortmund any time soon.

Reports in Germany earlier this week claimed that Mourinho is in regular contact with BVB chiefs and that the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has already begun learning German.

As such, there had been suggestions that Lucien Favre - who led Dortmund to second place behind Bayern Munich last season and kicked off this term with victory in the German Super Cup - could potentially be replaced by Mourinho in the not too distant future.

But speaking to Sky in Germany, sporting director Michael Zorc moved to quash suggestions the self-styled Special One could be heading to the Westfalenstadion.

"We are not having a coach discussion and are happy to have Lucien Favre,” explained Zorc.

"These rumours around Mourinho lack any substance.”

Dortmund currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga, just one point off table-toppers Borussia Monchengladbach.

Indeed, the top nine sides are separated by just two points.

Favre was appointed Dortmund coach in the summer of 2018 and his contract runs until 2021.

The German side lost 2-0 to Inter Milan in their Champions League encounter on Wednesday evening.

Mourinho is continuing to seek a return to management, having been out of work since leaving Old Trafford last December.

The Portuguese has increasingly been working as a pundit in recent months.
