Borussia Dortmund chief issues fresh update on Julian Brandt situation amid Arsenal transfer plan

Borussia Dortmund have not received an offer from Arsenal for midfielder Julian Brandt, according to sporting director Michael Zorc.

German publication BILD have reported that Dortmund would be willing to let Brandt leave on loan, should a lucrative offer be made in the January transfer window.

However, the German side are not interested in selling the 24-year-old, who is on the Gunners’ radar this month.

If Arsenal take the initiative they can land Emi Buendia

Arsenal are on the lookout for a creative midfielder and have identified Brandt and Norwich City’s Emi Buendia as potential targets.

The Gunners have previously shown an interest in Lyon’s Houssem Aouar and Dominik Szoboszlai, who eventually joined RB Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg.

Brandt has been receiving interest recently after moving to the fringes of Dortmund’s side, but Zorc has insisted that so far there have been no concrete offers for him.

“There is nothing on the table at the moment,” he said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

“We can’t do anything about rumours that are constantly being spread that simply don't reflect the truth. There’s currently no interest”

Brandt enjoyed a fruitful 2019/20 season, scoring seven times in all competitions and providing 10 assists across the Bundesliga, but has struggled this campaign.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man has scored just once in 22 appearances in all competitions so far this season and has featured more regularly off the substitutes’ bench for Edin Terzic’s side.

He has made 11 appearances off the bench in the Bundesliga and Champions League, compared to eight starts so far.

While his form is patchy this season, Brandt does have the credentials to provide the creativity Arsenal are looking for.

Although they have won their last three Premier League matches to reduce the pressure on Mikel Arteta, the Gunners still appear short of creation in the centre of the pitch.

Emile Smith Rowe has emerged as a promising player in the No.10 role recently, but the problems have been there ever since Mesut Ozil was frozen out of the side.
