Borussia Dortmund CEO offers Erling Haaland transfer update after Mino Raiola phone call

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed that Real Madrid are interested in signing his club’s star striker Erling Haaland.

The German club have confirmed that the Spanish giants are among those who are interested in signing the Norwegian striker, while Barcelona last week held a meeting with the player’s agent Mino Raiola.

Haaland looks set for a high-profile transfer in the medium-term, with a reported £70million release clause kicking-in to his Dortmund contract from this summer.

The Norwegian marksman has netted a scarcely believable 76 goals in just 75 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, having netted 28 goals in 22 outings in his final half-season at Red Bull Salzburg.

The 21-year-old has already established himself as one of the most fearsome players in world football with an expectation that he could be at the forefront of the sport for the next decade.

Dortmund CEO Watzke has now confirmed that multiple clubs are interested in signing the former Molde striker, with Real Madrid the only club to be namechecked.

Watzke has told an interview with Bild: “It doesn’t matter where you go, everyone talks about Erling Haaland.

“The only thing I know is that Real Madrid are very interested in his signing.

“I could name you other 25 teams, but I know for a fact that Madrid are interested.”

Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City are likely to be the clubs among the running for Haaland’s signature when he becomes available for a transfer.

Watzke has confirmed that he recently had a phone call with Haaland’s agent Raiola regarding the future of his client and he refused to rule out the possibility that the striker stayed at the Bundesliga club.

Haaland joined Dortmund in January 2020 and has found his best form at the German club, with a goal scoring rate more than one per game in that period.

Watzke added: “He might leave, but he might stay also.

“I talked to Mino Raiola a few days ago and the phone call was very positive.

“We will likely talk again in the upcoming weeks.”

The 21-year-old has continued to break multiple goal scoring records, netting 27 goals in 25 matches across his games in European competitions.

In the 2020–21 campaign, Haaland was integral in Dortmund's DFB-Pokal win, won the Bundesliga Player of the Season award and finished as the top scorer of the Champions League.

His future is likely to be at the forefront of transfer speculations for the months and years to come as every top club across Europe monitors his situation with a view to a possible transfer.
