Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose lifts lid on "honest" Erling Haaland transfer talks

The footballing world awaits as Erling Haaland chooses his next destination, with the striker expected to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Haaland is likely to be on the move in the close season as the Norwegian has a £68million release clause that comes into play, much to the regret of Dortmund, who could probably demand a world record fee if that wasn't the case.

Every top side in Europe is likely to throw their hat into the ring in a bid to land the generational talent, leaving Haaland in a rare situation of almost being able to choose where to play.

In some situations the selling club would not take kindly to a transfer saga of such magnitude, bur Dortmund boss Marco Rose has revealed that Haaland and the club are in "honest" discussions.

Haaland joined Dortmund back in 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg, and the 21-year-old has become one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe.

It's expected that Haaland and Kylian Mbappe will lead the new wave of talent to play at the very top, with the pair likely to hustle for the Ballon d'Or in a similar nature that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have done over the past 15 years.

Many clubs are desperate to sign Haaland, and the last thing that Dortmund want is to let him go, but given the inevitability of the situation, Rose has admitted to holding "honest" talks with the player to help figure out what's best for him.

Rose told BILD : "With Erling, everything is on the table internally - everyone is honest with each other.

"Haaland will make a decision at some point - the club will prepare well for it."

This was already expected, as Dortmund director Michael Zorc previously told Kicker : "Currently there is no deadline and there have not even been any talks yet. But it is clear, understandable and only professional that we want and have to hold talks at some point.”

Haaland also has one of the top agents in the footballing world, Mino Raiola, and he has made no secret of his desire to move his client on to a bigger club in the very near future.

Raiola has reportedly held meetings with some of the top clubs in Europe ahead of next summer and even named some when discussing Haaland's future.

"He can and will take the next step," Raiola told the German TV channel Sport1. "Bayern, Real, Barcelona, City – these are the big clubs he can go to.

"City have won the championship five times in recent years, significantly more than United. When we moved to Dortmund, we all knew that this step would come."

Haaland's father, Alf-Inge, previously played for City and a move to the Etihad has also been seen as a very realistic option, but even though Pep Guardiola is still looking for a striker, it's expected to be a heated battle for the Norwegian's signature with the rest of Europe.
