Borussia Dortmund announce signing of Manchester United target Jude Bellingham

Borussia Dortmund have announced the signing of Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City, a player long tracked by Manchester United.

The 17-year-old is understood to have signed a five-year contract after a fee of around £22.5million (€25m) was agreed with the Championship side.

United had made Bellingham him one of their leading targets this summer, giving him a tour of Carrington earlier this season where he met with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Sir Alex Ferguson as part of a concerted effort to bring him to Old Trafford.

However, Dortmund was considered the more attractive prospect for the teenager, a path the likes of Jadon Sancho and Erling Braut Haaland have also benefited from in recent months and years.

"Jude Bellingham confidently chose BVB and, of course, was primarily concerned with the sporting perspective that we showed him," said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.

"He has enormous potential that we share want to develop with him in the coming years. He already has a surprising amount of quality in his own possession as well as against the ball, and on top of that, the player also has a strong mentality.

"We immediately see Jude as a reinforcement for our first-team squad, but will, of course, give him the time to get used to the higher level."

Bellingham will wear the no.22 shirt at the club.
