Borris-Ileigh 1-17 Glen Rovers 3-08: Conor Kenny stars for the Tipp champions

Conor Kenny lit up Semple Stadium with six points from play as Borris-Ileigh saw off Glen Rovers to qualify for a first Munster final in 33 years.

James ‘JD’ Devaney continued his sumptuous goal-scoring form for Borris with a beauty just after the break, while Cork star Pat Horgan hit 2-4 in vain.

The hosts dominated the first half and ‘Moose’ Kenny’s three points inside four
minutes gave them the perfect start, before Horgan doubled to the net to give
the visitors hope.

Borris led by four at half-time but Devaney sped through on the restart to stretch the net and the lead was seven.

Rovers looked in bother but rallied against the wasteful hosts, with Horgan moving to centre-forward against the rampaging Brendan Maher.

The Hurler of the Year nominee slammed a free to the net from 25 yards on 43 minutes to make things nervy but Kevin Maher, Kenny and Kelly eventually hit crucial scores to settle the Tipp men.

Substitute Mark Dooley connected with with a lobbed ‘65 for a late Rovers major but Borris hung on and will now face Ballygunner of Waterford in the Munster final.

Scorers – Borris-Ileigh: C Kenny 0-6; K Maher 0-5 (3fs); J Kelly 0-4; J Devaney 1-0; B Maher 0-2 (1f; 1 ‘65)

Glen Rovers: P Horgan 2-4 (1-3f, 1 ‘65); M Dooley 1-0; G Kennefick 0-1; D Brosnan 0-2; D Dooley 0-1
