Borough Station: Cyclist, 12, suffers ‘life-changing injuries’ after being struck by lorry

A 12-year-old cyclist has suffered potentially life-changing injuries after being struck by a lorry outside Borough Station.

The victim was hit at the Marshalsea Road junction with Great Dover Street at around 8.10am on Wednesday.

The boy was rushed to hospital with what police described as “possible life-changing injuries”.

The lorry driver, who stopped at the scene, has not been arrested.

Witnesses said the boy’s bike was “broken into two pieces”.

A nearby deli worker said she was opening up when the crash took place.

She told The Standard: “It was outside our shop but we don’t know much about the boy.

“A customer came in and said the bike was practically broken into two pieces.

“I am glad to hear he is going to live, it looks very bad.

“There was a very serious accident a couple of weeks ago at the same spot.”

Road closures remain in place.
