Borna Barisic's Rangers redemption continues as UEFA give Croat star high ranking

Not so long ago Borna Barisic was being dubbed a £2million dud, error-prone and another full back who can't defend.

But ever since a free kick from the left foot of the Croat struck the net in Paisley to hand Rangers a crucial win over St Mirren, the 26-year-old has enjoyed the kind of transformation

Barisic's Rangers redemption story has now hit a new high after he played a key role to help his side grab a draw against Porto in Portugal on Thursday.

A superb assist for Alfrdo Morelos ' first-half equaliser, a strong defensive showing up against Brazilian dangerman Otávio and non-stop charges up and down the flank.

No wonder he reckons he is in the best form of his life, saying: "I think this is the best football I am playing in my career."

And his statement to that end has now been backed by UEFA whose team of statisticians have rated Barisic as he second best performing defender in the entire Europa League.

The rankings show who the in-form players are in the Europa League group stage according to UEFA's own algorithim.

And Barisic is behind only Dynamo Kiev stopper Artem Shabanov in the table. The left-back rose from fifth place to second on the back of his display in Porto which saw him provide the assist for the goal, set up Morelos for a second glaring opportunity and in total create three chances with a total of six crosses flung into the box.

Those stats see him tally up a score of 4203 points so far.

He isn't the only Rangers player flourishing either. Morelos has risen to seventh place in the best performing Europa League strikers rankings.

The Colombian's goal in the Estadio Do Dragao was his second in the group stage and 10th in the competition including the qualifying stage. It was one of two attempts he had on Porto's goal and he has amassed 4221 points in his three group stage appearances.

Celtic forward Ryan Christie comes in 11th in the same list on 3710 points. His goal and assist on top of three chances created saw him shortlisted for the player of the evening in the whole competition.

Christie has netted twice in the group stage.
