Gary McAllister did little to quell the transfer speculation surrounding Borna Barisic ’s future.
The Rangers left back left the pitch in tears after this afternoon’s 1-0 win over Celtic and appeared to be saying his goodbyes to the crowd.
That led to suggestions that he may have played his last match in light blue ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Barisic provided the assist for Felip Helander’s winning goal, the Swede rising to head his teammate’s corner past Joe Hart and take the roof off the packed Govan ground.
Reports have since emerged linking the Croatian with a switch to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
And McAllister, who was again standing in for absent boss Steven Gerrard on the touchline, was non-committal when quizzed over whether Barisic would be seen in a Rangers strip again.
He did, however, praise the 28-year-old’s display.
Barisic has struggled to hit the heights he reached last season after suffering an injury towards the tail end of the campaign.
He was still named in Croatia’s squad for Euro 2020, but made just one appearance, coming on as a late substitute in their 2-0 win over Scotland.
That meant he didn't rejoin the Gers squad for pre-season until later in the summer and he’s been playing catch up since.
But his assistant boss thought he was back to his old self against Celtic, although stopped short of confirming whether that was his last game.
"You never know,” replied the Ibrox number two.
"What I would say, that just might be a wee reminder to himself that that’s his level.
"That was Borna Barisic back at his very best. And it’s good to see."
