Borna Barisic is ready to be a Rangers star after keeping Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale quiet

Borna Barisic believes handling Wales superstar Gareth Bale proves he can handle playing for Rangers.

The left back endured a tough first season at Ibrox, with the 26-year-old managing only 24 appearances.

Barisic was kept out of Steven Gerrard’s team by the right-footed Jon Flanagan and midfielder Andy Halliday.

But he impressed for Croatia at the weekend and even managed to keep Real Madrid galactico Bale quiet in the World Cup semi-finalists 2-1 win over the Welsh in the Euro 2020 qualifier.

And Barisic wants to kick on from that performance for Rangers.

He said: "I was happy with my display. I was up against Gareth Bale and thought I did well.

"But it wasn't just him, Wales have a lot of players who play in the English Premier League.

"So to come up with a performance like that gives me great hope for the future at Rangers.

"We were under a lot of pressure before the game, but we all showed we could handle it.

"It was extremely hot too, but we came through it. It was a dream for me personally to return to play at Osijek.

"We have a friendly against Tunisia and it's important to keep momentum going before I return to Scotland for the new season."
