Borna Barisic injury boost for Rangers ahead of Celtic clash as defender returns to Croatia team

Rangers have been handed a huge boost ahead of Saturday's game against Celtic with Borna Barisic set to return to the Croatia team on Wednesday night.

The left back will line up against France despite missing the previous two games for his country against Switzerland and Sweden.

It meant he missed out on going up against his Rangers team-mate Cedric Itten but he will have a tough game on his hand against France on Wednesday night.

Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic said: "Barišić is fine now, we didn't want to take any risks with him, he skipped those two games, but now he is completely ready and will be ready for the French."

Motherwell have targeted a loan move that would see striker Devante Cole return to the club (Alan Harvey/SNS Group)

He's likely to be up against the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Kingsley Coman and Antoine Griezmann when Croatia take on the world champions in a rematch of the 2018 World Cup Final.

But it's a huge boost for Steven Gerrard ahead of Saturday's game and he'll be watching on in the hope the left back comes through without any issues.

He's already got doubts over Allan McGregor, Kemar Roofe, Joe Aribo and Filip Helander while Alfredo Morelos isn't expected back in Scotland until later in the week after representing Colombia.

Nikola Katic is a long-term injury problem and will definitely miss the game.
