Borna Barisic in major Rangers boost as Steven Gerrard provides injury update

Borna Barisic has handed Rangers a major injury boost ahead of their Europa League clash with Braga.

The influential left-back has been absent for two games after sustaining a hip injury in the Scottish Cup win over Hamilton Accies.

It was reported Barisic faces a "last-minute" fitness sweat but Steven Gerrard has since announced the defender is available for selection.

The 27-year-old has won his fitness battle as he was pictured training alongside his team-mates at Auchenhowie on Wednesday morning.

And Gerrard said: "Squad is looking good, Borna played the majority of yesterday's session so is available for selection.

"If we can find a performance against a team the level of Braga it will bring the confidence and belief that we need, some of our best performances have been in the Europa League."

Barisic sat out the damaging defeat to Kilmarnock last week and also missed the weekend win over Livingston.

Gerrard had Andy Halliday on standby in the event the Croat failed to make it in time.

Jon Flanagan has played at left-back but was cut from the club's Europa League squad earlier in February.

Rangers are already without Ryan Jack following his red card against Young Boys in the final group stage fixture.

Additionally, Barisic, Alfedo Morelos and Glen Kamara are a single booking away from missing the second leg in Portugal.
