Borna Barisic in Celtic vs Rangers injury sweat as left-back misses Croatia friendly

Rangers are sweating over the fitness of Borna Barisic after he was left out of the Croatia squad for their friendly with Switzerland.

The left-back limped off during Sunday's 2-0 win over Ross County but reported for international duty.

Assistant manager Gary McAllister played down the severity of the injury, insisting Barisic had simply suffered an impact injury.

However, Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic thought it serious enough to leave him out entirely of his 23-man squad he listed for the match in St Gallen, which the Croatians ended up winning 2-1.

And that will leave Rangers sweating over the fitness of one of their key men ahead of the first Old Firm game against Celtic.

Dalic said: "It was good to use some of the other players in the squad and I thought the guys all played very well.

"But we are probably not at our best just now because we don't have our full squad out there."

Now Rangers will be watching with interest to see if Barisic is fit enough for Croatia's double-header Nations League games at home to Sweden and France on Sunday and Wednesday ahead of the showdown with Celtic next Saturday.
