Borna Barisic Croatia mystery solved as Rangers defender misses England clash through injury

The mystery surrounding Borna Barisic's absence from the Croatia squad against England has been solved with the Rangers star missing out with injuries.

Barisic's name was omitted from the starting 11 for the Wembley clash and fans were confused as to the reason why.

He's been excellent for Steven Gerrard's side as they romped the Premiership and has been his country's starting left-back for some months but doubts first arrived when a leaked Croatia team suggested he'd be dropped for 19-year-old Josko Gvardiol.

That proved to be the case and manager Zlatko Dalic even decided not to include the Ibrox man in his 23-man matchday squad as three players from the total 26 at the tournament must sit out each game at Euro 2020.

Barisic was named as one and that's down to a few niggling injuries, though it doesn't seem like anything serious is in the offing that could affect his club.

Speaking to Croatian TV station HRT, Dalic said: "I think this is the best possible option for this match.

"Barisic has had problems with injuries for the last ten days, Guardiol is now the most prepared."

Vatreni did struggle against the Three Lions and trailed in the second half to Raheem Sterling's opener.
