Born to love noise

Daniel Reid in his June 3 letter, "Kill noise monsters", is right. There is a department to deal with noise pollution. I found this office at the Bangkok City Hall about 15 or so years ago, tucked away in a corner, staffed by 10 people, all who were playing computer games when I walked in. I was there to file a noise complaint. None of the staff knew where to find the complaint forms to fill in. When a form was eventually produced, there was little enthusiasm for anyone to listen or help out. I finally went outside to find "someone in authority" to light a fire under these people. At least I got the ball rolling after a few hours that should have taken a few minutes.

Thais are born into noise, live with noise, and, if you've ever been to a Thai funeral, depart with a cacophony as well, enough to wake the dead.

Uncover cover-ups!

Re: "Just another cover-up", (PostBag, June 2).

Let's not cover up the cover-ups by simply arguing that "everyone does it". Yes; there are plenty of cover-ups in Thai politics. That doesn't mean we should ignore or excuse cover-ups of Mr Trump (many of which potentially affect Thais and others around the world, not only Americans). We need more transparency across the board. Let's work to expose them all rather than make excuses!

Chattering in Thai

Why has the instructive and amusing "English on Tour" slot, prior to the national anthem at 6pm, been reformatted into mostly Thai chatter? Now Khun Dinar does not repeat and carefully enunciate in English what she did before so assiduously, though doubtless this is not her fault. The former and better-executed version not only served to promote conversational skills in English but also assisted students of the Thai language through the brief dialogues, myself included. The new version doesn't. Producers, please note!

FFP boss headaches

By tradition, Thai MPs, as public figures, always attend funerals and weddings in their constituencies, as part of their duties. One MP for Ang Thong who followed this tradition received a jesting remark from a member of the Future Forward Party that drew heavy criticism that FFP leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, as reported in local media, had to come out to apologise in public.

It looks like the FFP leader will have to face more and more headaches as a result of his party's young and boisterous members' inappropriate behavior.

'True' rebate hopes

If their "Service Provider" department at True were as impeccable as their billing department, what an astute company it would be. Wonder if rebates are available.
