Borja Baston offered transfer route out of Swansea City by top French club - but there's a snag

Swansea City striker Borja Baston has been offered a route out of the Liberty Stadium.

The Spaniard has barely featured for Steve Cooper for the past few months, playing second fiddle to first Sam Surridge then Rhian Brewster.

Borja started the season strongly, scoring five goals by the end of August, but his form tailed off and he lost his starting spot to the on-loan Bournemouth man.

The Spaniard then had to make do with appearances from the bench, and the arrival of Brewster from Liverpool has seen his opportunities in Cooper's starting XI blocked somewhat.

There was always the potential that the 27-year-old could move on before Friday's 11pm deadline and that possibility has now emerged, with French outlet L'Equipe reporting that Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have been offered the striker on a six-month loan deal.

If that were to play out it would mean Borja would have played his last game in a Swansea shirt, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

It is highly unlikely that either the forward or Swansea would want to extend his stay in SA1, meaning the £15.5million signing would leave South Wales with just seven goals to his name.

However, the French outlet state that Borja is not Bordeaux's first-choice target.

They are currently in talks with Portuguese outfit Rio Ave over 27-year-old Iranian international striker Mehdi Taremi.

Borja would represent a back-up option for the French club, who sit 10th in the French top flight.
