Boris Toby Jugs and No 10 candles - Some of the merchandise on sale at the Tory party conference

As thousands descend on Manchester for the Tory party conference today, they will be keen to prove their dedication to their party.

Fortunately, activists and supporters rolling up to the Manchester Central convention centre will be able to get their hands on a wide range of merchandise at a Conservative Party gift shop.

As you might expect, Prime Minister Boris Johnson features heavily, on everything from t-shirts and mugs to Toby Jugs.

The party faithful can also show their loyalty to the Conservative cause by donning t-shirts emblazoned with a number of familiar campaign slogans.

But wearing your political affiliation on your sleeve does not come cheap.

A Boris Toby Jug is priced at an eye-watering £28.95.

Slightly more affordable is a 'BackBoris' mug at £12.99 - the same price as a simple design 'Conservative Mug'.

And Boris is not the only Tory prime minister to feature.

For those experiencing a dose of nostalgia for the old days, there's plenty of Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher merch to go around.

Tory members can show their love for Thatcher - who was nicknamed " milk snatcher” - with a mug depicting her pointing alongside the words 'Milk before tea?' and 'No. No. No'.

And what self-respecting Conservative could go without a set of 'No 10 candles'?

The four-day conference begins today and runs through to Wednesday.

Safeguarding measures, surveillance and armed officers will be deployed across the four-day conference as part of one of the largest 24-hour security operations in the UK.

Security barriers and cordons have already been installed in and around Manchester Central and the Midland Hotel, where the majority of attendees will be staying, while many surrounding roads will be closed for the duration of the event.

Party conferences have been a key feature in Manchester’s events calendar for more than a decade as members and leaders meet to discuss and share ideas.

It will be Boris Johnson’s second Tory party conference in the city with the prime minister having visited in the months prior to the 2019 general election.

The Conservatives' visit is not without controversy, however.

A number of demonstrations are expected to take place throughout the conference’s stay in Manchester.

This morning, protesters from the People's Assembly marched from Whitworth Park, on Oxford Road, to the convention centre.

The group is calling for a swathe of reforms, including an end to the controversial policing bill, which has been demonstrated against in Manchester already this year .
