Boris Johnson will take Prime Minister's Questions from Downing Street self-isolation

Boris Johnson will take part in Wednesday's Prime Minister's Questions session remotely while self-isolating in Downing Street.

Officials are scrambling to adjust the Prime Minister's diary since he was forced into isolation on Sunday after coming in contact with an infected MP.

The PM's spokesman said: "Our firm intention is that that will happen but we are just speaking with the parliamentary authorities on the details."

Five other Tory politicians were told to self-isolate after a meeting Downing Street on Thursday which cast doubt on the covid precautions being taken a the heart of government. However, former special adviser Dominic Cummings was not at the meeting.

Also in doubt is the Prime Minister's publicised reset of his premiership after the ejection of Cummings from his Downing Street operation.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said the PM will self-isolate in his Downing Street flat but will still be able to work from his Number 10 office.

Johnson declared himself to be "bursting with antibodies" having contracted covid-19 in April but must follow the rules on  and self-isolate following contact with Tory MP Lee Anderson, who has since tested positive for Covid-19.

The spokesman declined to comment on whether the Prime Minister’s fiancee Carrie Symonds was also staying in the flat.

The spokesman also said Johnson was "well looked after and served by staff in Number 10 at all times".

Downing Street insisted social distancing was "observed" at the meeting between MPs and Boris Johnson.

The spokesman said: "Social distancing was observed at the meeting. It is also the case that Number 10 is a Covid-secure workplace.

"We take every possible step to ensure that hand sanitiser is made available to people as soon as they arrive at the building and it is available throughout the building as you travel through it.

“But as I say, factors such as the length of the meeting meant that it was the advice of Test and Trace that the Prime Minister should self-isolate and he of course will follow that instruction.”

Other MPs present at the meeting included Katherine Fletcher (South Ribble), Andy Carter (Warrington South), Lia Nici (Great Grimsby), Brendan Clarke-Smith (Bassetlaw) and Chris Clarkson (Heywood and Middleton).

Two of the Prime Minister’s political aides were also present and have been told to self-isolate. Johnson’s spokesman declined to name the aides but suggested they were not former advisers Lee Cain or Dominic Cummings.
