Boris Johnson 'will quit as PM to make money' claims former adviser

Boris Johnson will quit as Prime Minister in a few years in order to 'make money and have fun', his former chief adviser has claimed.

Dominic Cummings, who left his role in Number 10 last year, has published an explosive blog post of allegations about his former boss and the government.

In his blog, he published Whatsapp messages, which he claimed showed Mr Johnson calling Health Secretary Matt Hancock 'absolutely f*****g hopeless'.

In another part of the blog, he made claims that Mr Johnson will leave his role in a few years.

Mr Cummings said Johnson has a “clear plan” to resign as prime minister by 2025 or 2026 because he doesn’t want to go “on and on” in the job.

The former adviser said the plan meant the UK would be living with “chronic dysfunction” in government for around another five years, unless “some force intervenes” to remove Johnson.

In another claim against his former boss, Mr Cummings said the PM had delayed the start of a public inquiry so that he could leave office before it produced findings.

The blog said: "“Unlike other PMs, this one has a clear plan to leave at the latest a couple of years after the next election, he wants to make money and have fun not ‘go on and on’. So we either live with chronic dysfunction for another ~5 years or some force intervenes.”

He added: “The public inquiry cannot fix this. It will not start for years and it is designed to punt the tricky parts until after this PM has gone,”

Earlier in his blog, Mr Cummings shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message, which he said was from a late-night exchange on March 26, 2020, Mr Cummings and Mr Johnson are shown to be discussing actions from "MH" in boosting the UK's COVID testing capacity.

The screenshot shows a reply, allegedly from the Prime Minister, stating: "Totally f*****g hopeless".

In another exchange, said to be from 27 April last year, Mr Johnson is said to have openly wondered about taking responsibility for procuring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) away from Mr Hancock and giving it to Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove.

The prime minister is claimed to have written: "On ppe it's a disaster. I can't think of anything except taking Hancock off and putting Gove on."
