Boris Johnson will not take part in PMQs after birth of son with Dominic Raab expected to face Sir Keir Starmer

Boris Johnson will not take part in Prime Minister’s Questions today following the birth of his son.

Mr Johnson had returned to work on Monday following his recovery from Covid-19 and Wednesday would have been his first contest with new Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.

However it was announced this morning that Mr Johnson's fiancee Carrie Symonds had given birth to the couple's first baby. Both mother and son are said to healthy.

It is expected Mr Johnson's deputy Dominic Raab will face Sir Keir at the despatch box, just as he did last week when Parliament resumed.

Mr Johnson had been away from Government business after being hospitalised with Covid-19, before heading to Chequers for his recovery.

He returned to work on Monday, delivering a speech in Downing Street, urging people to stick with social distancing.

Mr Raab faces another stern test should he stand in again today in the Commons, with Sir Keir's debut praised for his analytical approach.

The pair last week clashed over test levels, which will likely be an issue again today.

Points such as PPE and frontline worker deaths are also expected to be raised.
