Boris Johnson will make "modest, small and incremental" changes to lockdown, claims Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab

Dominic Raab tonight insisted any changes to lockdown would be "modest, small and incremental".

The British Foreign Secretary warned the public not to expect any huge alterations to limits on their movement.

It comes ahead of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's address to the nation on Sunday night.

He is expected to set out a "road map" of what the coming weeks will look like as the country attempts to exit lockdown.

Mr Raab said officials at Westminster were keen to adopt a "UK-wide approach" where possible following an earlier statement from Nicola Sturgeon.

Scotland's First Minister warned for the potential of "catastrophic" consequences if lockdown was lifted too soon.

She extended Scotland's measures at lunchtime and said any ease of the restrictions would be "very, very risky".

Officials tonight said that R - the rate of infection for the virus - currently stood between 0.5 and 0.9.

"The point at which we made even the smallest of changes will be a point of maximum risk," added Mr Raab.

Number 10 said earlier it will move with "maximum caution" when lifting coronavirus lockdown restrictions in England, as ministers look to avoid a second peak while restarting the economy.
