Boris Johnson welcomes baby girl with wife Carrie as couple thank NHS for care and support

Boris Johnson and wife Carrie have announced the birth of their second child together, a baby girl.

As the country remains up in arms about the Downing Street Christmas party 'cover up' and in the aftermath of Plan B coronavirus restrictions being announced on Wednesday evening, a spokesperson for the couple said: "The prime minister and Mrs Johnson are delighted to announce the birth of a healthy baby girl at a London hospital earlier today."

"Both mother and daughter are doing very well. The couple would like to thank the brilliant NHS maternity team for all their care and support.”

The as yet unnamed baby arrives into the world less than two years after Carrie gave birth to son Wilfred, at the height of the Covid pandemic and, after she revealed she'd suffered a miscarriage earlier this year.

Speaking about her pregnancy, Carrie said: Hoping for our rainbow baby this Christmas.

"At the beginning of the year, I had a miscarriage which left me heartbroken. I feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant again but I've also felt like a bag of nerves."
