Boris Johnson watched Dominic Raab take on Sir Keir Starmer at PMQs from Chequers today as he continues his recovery from coronavirus.

The PM is at the country residence after being hospitalised with Covid-19, with the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Michael Gove recently saying he is in "cheerful spirits" as he recuperates.

Dominic Raab, in his role as First Secretary of State, stood in for Mr Johnson in Wednesday's clash.

New Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer made his PMQs debut as head of the opposition in a historic sitting which saw MPs attend virtually for the first time.

The PM's spokesman said afterwards: "He is continuing his recovery at Chequers. I am told he watched PMQs from Chequers.”

He added that Mr Johnson had spoken with Mr Raab yesterday.

Mr Johnson continues to receive updates on Government business though is said not to be doing formal Government work - despite the contact with Mr Raab and reportedly communication with senior aides.

Sir Keir and Mr Raab clashed over coronavirus testing, with the Labour leader pressing on numbers and the Government's targets.

He highlighted the number of tests being conducted then that this falls way below the actual capacity for tests which can be carried out.

He said to the House: “There is a pattern emerging here. We were slow into lockdown, slow on testing, slow on protective equipment and now slow to take up these offers from British firms.”

Mr Raab told him the Government was guided by scientific advisers.
