Boris Johnson warns against "impatience" as Prime Minister speaks to British nation outside Downing Street

Boris Johnson returned to work this morning and urged the British people to "contain their impatience" during lockdown.

The Prime Minister addressed the nation outside Downing Street and confirmed there would be no early lifting of the stay-at-home measures.

In his first live appearance since recovering from coronavirus, he said he knew "how hard and how stressful" the lockdown had been for many people.

But he urged people to keep going "in the way you have kept going so far".

The PM said he was not prepared to risk a devastating second wave of the virus, which could risk many lives and cause untold damage to the economy.

Mr Johnson said the country was coming to the end of "phase one" of the fight as it continued its battle with the virus.

And he said more announcements will be made in the coming days and promised to be "transparent" with the British people.
