Queen Elizabeth House Edinburgh: Boris Johnson to set up cabinet meeting room in Scottish capital

Boris Johnson is reportedly planning to move some of his UK cabinet meetings to Edinburgh by autumn.

It comes as the UK Prime Minister spent some time in Scotland last week in a bid to strengthen the union by making the work of his cabinet more visible to the nation.

However, he ruffled feathers by failing to meet with Nicola Sturgeon on the trip, which was met by protesters in several locations. In Orkney, protesters waved signs, including one that read: "we don't want a lying, racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamophobic, hypocritical, ignorant, egotistical, irresponsible 'leader'."

Boris Johnson is currently 'setting up a meeting room and hub in the capital at Queen Elizabeth House near Waverley Station for his cabinet, reports The Times.

The new hub will also have a Scottish Office and HMRC staff and it is apparently hoped that the UK government can use it to get more involved in Scottish life.

A UK Government source told the paper that is was "absolutely right" that the UK Government should be "visible and meeting in Scotland."

According to the source, the UK Government cabinet hopes they can also source meeting facilities across the four nations as a way of showing their "commitment to the Union."
