Boris Johnson is expected to recall Parliament within days to discuss the growing crisis in Afghanistan.
MPs will be asked to come back to Westminster during their summer recess after the Taliban took control of parts of Afghanistan following the withdrawal of US troops.
Taliban fighters are reported to have entered the outskirts of the capital in Kabul.
In the UK, there was deep anger among many MPs at the way – 20 years after the first international forces entered Afghanistan – the country was being abandoned to its fate.
A number 10 source said the PM Boris Johnson is expected to seek a recall of Parliament to discuss the worsening situation.
