Boris Johnson to give national televised address today

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will hold a press conference on Monday evening after setting out the new tiered coronavirus restrictions for England.

The Prime Minister, who is still self-isolating, will take part remotely, with the event expected around 7pm.

England’s chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty and director of the Oxford vaccine group Professor Andrew Pollard will also be at the press conference.

The address will come after Mr Johnson sets out the new rules in Parliament at 3.30pm.

He is expected to announce a return to a three-tier system in England - with tougher rules to control the virus.

That will allow all shops to reopen in all tiers across England, but pubs and restaurants in Tier Three are expected to be closed.

Mr Johnson is also expected to announce some of the plans for Christmas - including an easing of lockdown rules.

And there will be an announceent on mass testing as well as an update on vaccination.
