Boris Johnson to be next PM - Glasgow reacts to new Prime Minister

Boris Johnson will be the UK's new Prime Minister.

Tomorrow, Theresa May will depart Downing Street for the very last time, and in will walk Boris.

Undoubtedly a highly divisive, Marmite character, many Glaswegians have a strained relationship with 'BoJo'.

Of course one Glaswegian famously went very public with his feelings on Johnson, spraypainting: "Boris Johnson is a pure fanny" on a wall in Partick.

And there have been some interesting Glasgow responses to today's big news across social media already.

One user took to Twitter to say: "Just landed in Glasgow Airport to news that Boris Johnson is the new prime minister, can i get back on the plane pls."

Another commented on Facebook: "This d*** becomes PM, Britain has the hottest day ever recorded, we are literally entering hell."

One person simply said: "God help us all!!!

Someone went with: "Britain has created a monster", later adding: "Britain's answer to Donald Trump."

And even Gavin Mitchell, Boaby the barman from Still Game, got involved (as did his dog):

Of course Glasgow has certainly had its say on Boris before.

At the end of May, when the prospect of Johnson becoming PM became a more realistic possibility, one person made his feelings well and truly clear with a typically Glaswegian response: "So now we're getting that big bag of p*sh Boris."

Yet there was an even more graphic interpretation of events: "Canny even feel relieved about May resigning knowing that Boris will probably take her place. Like saying they'll stop kicking your heed in as long as their pal can set you on fire."

"Thought a Boris Johnson as prime minister is making me feel heavy whitey" also got an airing.

Yet one person tried to be diplomatic on the whole issue this afternoon, saying: "He's not even started yet? Give him a chance."

What do we think, Glasgow? We're not sure our city will give him too much time to settle in.
