Boris Johnson set to announce foreign holiday list soon with updates every 3 weeks

Boris Johnson is reportedly set to reveal a holiday list of Covid-safe destinations in just a few days and will update it every three weeks.

The 'green' countries which Brits can fly to and from to after restrictions are eased on May 17 could be announced as early as Friday, it is believed.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the update would be set out “well before” May 17 and government officials have always said it would be in early May.

One of the countries to be added to the list is thought to be Portugal, yet this has yet to be confirmed.

The Government is expected to tweak its slogan, telling potential holidaymakers: ‘Travel safely, plan ahead’, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The foreign holiday list would mean Brits can visit certain countries without having to quarantine – but the list is only believed to include small number of destinations..

Before the announcement, latest data from around the world would be analysed by the Joint Biosecurity Centre, taking into consideration four main criteria: percentage of the population that has been vaccinated, the Covid infection rate, coronavirus variants and the strength of a country’s genomic sequencing, which makes it easier for variants to be detected.

At the moment, Europe’s most-popular holiday hotspots are expected to remain on the amber list, where guests must show three negative tests and ten days’ isolation on return.

The few that are on the green list would not not need to quarantine, but would have to take two Covid tests when they return back to the UK.

People returning from ‘amber’ or ‘red’ countries would still have to quarantine, either at home or in a hotel, and would need to take three tests during their quarantine period.

Boris Johnson is also expected to announce that indoor service is due to resume on May 17, with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars being allowed to welcome customers indoors, as well as stating that venues can set their own capacity limits consistent with the ‘metre plus’ social distancing rule.

This would apply up until June 21, when the social distancing measures are expected to be ditched.

A No10 source said those reports, also in the Mail on Sunday, were "speculation" but did not deny them.
