Boris Johnson tests positive for coronavirus but says he'll continue to lead 'national fightback'

Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus.

The UK Prime Minister confirmed the news on social media this morning.

He says he underwent a test for the virus after developing symptoms such as a cough and temperature.

In a video posted to Twitter he said that he'll be self-isolating but communicating with his team via video link, and continuing to lead the "national fightback".

He added: "I've developed mild symptoms of the coronavirus, that's to say a temperature and a persistent cough, and on the advice of the chief medical officer I have taken a test and that has come out positive.

"So I am working from home and self-isolating and that is entirely the right thing to do. But be in no doubt. I can continue thanks to the wizardry of modern technology, to communicate with all of my top team and lead the national fightback against coronavirus."
