Boris Johnson taken to intensive care after being admitted to hospital with coronavirus symptoms

Boris Johnson has been taken into intensive care tonight (April 6) after being admitted to hospital with coronavirus symptoms.

The Prime Minister spent the night in St Thomas' Hospital, London, 10 days after testing positive for Covid-19.

According to Downing Street officials, his symptoms had worsened over the afternoon.

He has been moved to the intensive care ward on the advice of his team.

A spokesperson said: "Since Sunday evening, the Prime Minister has been under the care of doctors at St Thomas’ Hospital, in London, after being admitted with persistent symptoms of coronavirus.

"Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the Prime Minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.”

The Prime Minister has now asked Dominc Raab to deputise for him.

The spokesperson added: "The PM is receiving excellent care, and thanks all NHS staff for their hard work and dedication."

Mr Johnson announced on March 27 that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and was self-isolating with "mild symptoms" including a high temperature and persistent cough.

He has shared several video updates from his Number 11 flat since his diagnosis, and stepped outside to join the nationwide clap for NHS staff on Thursday evening.
