Boris Johnson should not be trusted by the Scottish people

There is almost nothing Boris Johnson says that can be taken at face value.

He has a passing acquaintance with the truth and has sullied the office of Prime Minster since coming to power.

He is indeed a Poundshop Trump who will say whatever it takes to get through the moment.

But there is one thing we can be sure of - Boris Johnson has nothing but contempt for the UK’s devolved governments.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford during their joint press conference (PA)

He dismissed Nicola Sturgeon and her Welsh counterpart Mark Drakeford’s joint declaration that their respective administrations would withhold legislative approval for his terrible Brexit deal.

Both have rightly called for their nations to be given a greater say as Johnson’s Withdrawal Agreement Bill touches on devolved issues.

But this mendacious Prime Minister, the lowest character to hold the office in modern times, has dealt with Scottish and Welsh concerns with nothing but contempt.

Ian Blackford is quite right to say Johnson cannot be trusted by the Scottish people.

The Prime Minister threw a tantrum and “paused” the withdrawal bill after MPs rejected his timetable to rush it through parliament.

Hopefully it’s not too long until his premiership can also be paused - before he is booted out of office for good.

Green for go!

Scotland has an ambitious climate change policy after setting a net zero target strategy for emissions by 2045.

Superpowers like China and the US need to follow suit but we cannot wait for others to act. Our MSPs were right to be bold.

A key part of the challenge is to persuade people to give up their gas guzzling cars by trading them in for electric motors.

However, a new forecast reveals the gap between ambition and reality.

If we are to hit the 2045 target, Scotland will need more than two million charging points - around 150 a day. The cost will run to £3.6bn.

Scots want to go green are would happily embrace new technology if the infrastructure existed.

The truth is there are only around 1000 public charging points across the country - a number that is way too low.

Government and business need to work together to change this and ensure ordinary Scots can assist in the transition to zero carbon .
