Boris Johnson says NHS will roll out vaccine as soon as it's approved

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed tonight that the NHS is ready to roll out the Covid Pfizer vaccine as soon as it is approved.

Mr Johnson has said that early results suggest the Pfizer vaccine is 90% against effective protecting people from the virus and hopes that this means we are 'near the beginning of the end of the fight.'

The Prime Minister confirmed that the NHS is ready to begin a mass vaccination programme as soon as the vaccine has been 'peer reviewed and cleared'

Mr Johnson said that the UK has ordered millions of doses of the new vaccine and that he will work with experts to decide who will receive it first.

Professor Jonathan Van-Tam added that he is "hopeful" that some doses will be available to members of the public "by Christmas."

The professor added that 'safety data from this stage of the trial should be available in the next few days' and that by next spring we could be in a much better situation.

Mr Van-Tam added: “So this is like... getting to the end of the playoff final, it’s gone to penalties, the first player goes up and scores goal.

“You haven’t won the cup yet, but what it does is it tells you that the goalkeeper can be beaten.”
