Boris Johnson has suggested lockdown measures could be lifted on Monday.
At his first Prime Minister's Questions since his recovery from coronavirus and the birth of his son Wilfred, Mr Johnson set out his ambitions.
His Commons appearance came ahead of a speech on Sunday where he is expected to set out plans for easing the lockdown as ministers hinted that cafes may be able to reopen in the summer months if they can provide outdoor facilities.
The Prime Minister alluded that some of the measures he announces on Sunday could be implemented as soon as the next day.
This could see some outdoor activities resume, reports the Mirror.
It comes after the PM faced criticism for planning to reveal the measures on TV first, rather than in the House of Commons.
Announcing them on Sunday and implementing them on Monday means MPs may not have a chance to ask questions about them before they take effect.
Asked why he was breaking with the usual rules, the PM said: "The reason for that is very simple, that we have to be sure the the data is going to support our ability to do this.
"That data is coming in continuously over the next few days. We want if we possibly can to get going with some of these measures on Monday."
He added: "I do think it would be a good idea Mr Speaker if people had a good idea of what's coming on Monday, that's why I think Sunday is the best time to do it, but of course the house will be fully informed and will have the full opportunity to debate and interrogate me or the government on that matter."
Speaker Lindsay Hoyle added, pointedly: "And hopefully in the future it will be to the house first."
Sir Lindsay has previously said it was "a matter of regret" that the PM chose to make his statement on lifting lockdown measures on Sunday, rather than explaining the details to MPs first.
He said such statements should be made to the house first so MPs can scrutinise the decision making.
If the measures are introduced on Monday, it means MPs won't have an opportunity to ask questions about the measures until after they are in place.
The Prime Minister is expected to spell out more of his thinking about how and when lockdown might eventually be eased - after the formal deadline to extend it this Thursday.
Small shops and outdoor workplaces would reopen in a first phase in early June, followed by large shopping centres and some offices in a second phase, according to the plan seen by The Times.
Ministers have already made clear that pubs, restaurants, hotels and leisure centres will be among the last to open - and reports suggest they will be in a third and final phase.
Officials have privately made clear, including to the Mirror, that outdoor activities will be among the first to resume because there is less risk of transmission than indoors.
And draft guidance on how workplaces can return safely has been circulated to unions and business leaders.
Ministers have also confirmed schools will return in "phases". It's thought this would happen from June 1 at the earliest, with primary schools and especially Year 6 the first to return.
