Boris Johnson says he's 'full of beans' after fitness drive

Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he feels ‘full of beans’ after trying to lose weight by ‘avoiding chocolate’ and ‘late night cheese’.

Mr Johnson revealed he had been doing everything he can to lose weight and to feel fitter and healthier.

In a video posted to Twitter, Mr Johnson said: “I’ve been doing a lot, in fact, everything I can, to lose weight and to feel fitter and healthier.

“I’ve been eating less carbs, avoiding chocolate, no more late night cheese. I’ve been getting up early for runs and the result is I actually have lost some weight, quite a lot by my standards,

“I feel much more energetic, I feel full of beans and I thoroughly, thoroughly recommend it.

“I know there are many people in the same sort of position as I am, and I was, who want to lose weight. That’s why we’re investing now in that whole national objective.”

It comes as the Government announced a £100 million package to help drive down levels of obesity – which increases a person’s risk of dying from Covid-19 or severe disease, as well as a number of other health problems.

The PM added: “We’re investing £100 million pounds to help people to access GP appointments to get the right apps that they need to lose weight and we’re also looking at various kinds of a Fit-Miles scheme as well.

“What we want to do is to encourage another 700,000 people around the country who have the kind of problems that I have had to do the same thing.

“So we’ll be not just fitter but also healthier and happier and we’ll bounce back better together. That’s the objective.
