Boris Johnson says AstraZeneca vaccine review won't change Covid-19 roadmap

Boris Johnson says he's seen no evidence that the AstraZeneca vaccine review will change the schedule of easing Covid-19 lockdown.

The PM said he will carefully follow the advice on the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

But he said he saw no evidence that would change the roadmap.

During a visit to Cornwall, he told broadcasters: "I think the crucial thing on this is to listen to what the scientists, and the doctors, the medical experts, have to say.

"The MHRA is meeting, the JCVI is meeting, they'll be setting out the position and we will get on with rolling out the vaccine and obviously we'll follow very carefully what they have to say."

He added: "I don't think anything that I have seen leads me to suppose that we will have to change the road map or deviate from the road map in any way."

Today, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) are expected to give updates on their investigations into whether the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is directly causing incredibly rare brain blood clots.
