Boris Johnson's virtual PMQs wasn't in flat or office despite order to self-isolate

Boris Johnson did virtual PMQs from neither his flat nor his office - despite the fact he’s supposed to be in isolation.

The Prime Minister today took his weekly Wednesday questions over video feed for the first time in Commons history.

But the feed was not filmed in his flat above 11 Downing Street, where he is supposed to be self-isolating.

It wasn’t even filmed in his No10 office, where he’s been working by walking from his flat and through the back garden.

Instead it was filmed in “a room off his office”, despite the legal order to isolate, the PM’s official spokesman said.

The spokesman suggested a remote camera was set up for the PM by staff before he entered the room.

“It was in a room off his office,” the spokesman said, hastily adding: “We are able to do this.

“It’s a working house, and we’re able to do this without the PM coming into contact with other people.”

He went on: “No10 is a working house and the Prime Minister can move between his flat and his office without coming into contact with any other employees.”

Mr Johnson is having to self-isolate until Thursday next week after hosting a gathering for half a dozen Tory MPs in No10.

One of those MPs, Lee Anderson, later tested positive for coronavirus - forcing all others at the meeting to isolate.

Coronavirus laws say people who are told to self-isolate by Test and Trace must remain in their “home” or face £1,000 fines.

Yet No10 claims Mr Johnson is not breaking the law because he can access his No10 office and other rooms without contact.

No doubt by total coincidence, Downing Street has started referring to No10 as “the house” after Mr Johnson started isolating.
