Boris Johnson's spoof Tory leadership website is trolling of the highest order

Anti-Brexit campaigners have set up a spoof leadership website for Tory MP Boris Johnson.

The humorous site aims to highlight the prospect of the Brexiteer taking over if Theresa May's deal passes.

It features an endorsement section with quotes from Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, Nigel Farage and Jacob Rees-Mogg .

The US President said of the former Foreign Secretary that Boris is "a very talented guy. I have a lot of respect for him. He has got the right attitude to be Prime Minister.”

The site also features an invented letter from the former London Mayor saying: "I never wanted to be Prime Minister.

"Indeed, if there was anything I could do to stop myself from running for leader, I would.

Tory Brexiteers' bid to torpedo Brexit delay fails as MPs pass Cooper Letwin Act

"But we need a leader who will escape the shackles of the Customs Union, bin the backstop, and push our horizons back out across the seas we once ruled.

"As your Prime Minister, I would tell Europe to ‘sod off’, and quickly strike a trade deal with my good friend in the White House that would allow the spirit of American enterprise to course through the veins of our NHS."

The humorous website also has a serious point (https://borisforbritain.com/)

But it is also highlighting a serious fear for Remainers that Labour could help the Tories get the PM's deal through parliament - or some version of it hammered out in the ongoing cross-party talks.

In a desperate attempt to get her deal through the Commons, the PM told her party she would stand down and let the next leader of the Tories handle the next stage in negotiations which will involve agreeing on the future relationship between the UK and the EU.

She hoped the decision would persuade enough Brexiteers to back her deal so that the next stage could be lead by someone from their wing of the party.

Within hours Boris Johnson, who had repeatedly slammed the deal, changed his mind and voted for it.

The former Foreign Secretary is currently the bookies' favourite to succeed Mrs May.

But Our Future, Our Choice, a group of young people campaigning against Brexit , are warning Labour MPs and others not to back Mrs May's deal to let Boris become PM.

It uses an adapted Labour slogan to highlight the party's potential role in Boris's journey to Number 10 (https://borisforbritain.com/)

Labour have talked about including a so-called Boris lock as part of any agreement making it difficult for a future Brexiteer Tory Prime Minister to overturn any agreement.

OFOC have highlighted concerns about the effectiveness of such a "lock" in view of the fact that a key principle of the UK's system is that no parliament can bind a future parliament.

The Government’s top law officer Geoffrey Cox, also shed doubt on its effectiveness saying: “No nation is obliged to remain in an arrangement that doesn’t suit it….There’s nothing to stop us removing ourselves from that arrangement. So we can’t look at these things as permanent strait-jackets upon this country.”

Brexit: David Gauke fuels second referendum hopes as talks with Labour ramp up

Femi Oluwole, co-founder of Our Future, Our Choice, said: “If Labour MPs vote for May’s Brexit Deal, or any other, to go through, they will be firing the starting gun on a Tory Leadership contest that will likely end up with Boris Johnson becoming Prime Minister.

"He would then tear up whatever Deal those Labour MPs voted for. Johnson would no doubt bin the backstop, take us out a customs union, and shred any protections in the deal for workers.”
