Boris Johnson's Plan B announcement will have huge implications for Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs

The UK government is set to introduce coronavirus 'Plan B' restrictions that will have a huge impact on all Premier League clubs and their fans, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Last season saw fans forced to stay away from matches due to a ban on large crowds, barring a few trial matches towards the end of the campaign, but they have returned in their thousands in 2021-22.

However, the match-going experience is set to change as fears grow surrounding the more transmissible Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Restrictions likely to be implemented include an order to work from home where possible as well as vaccine passports in England when attending large events.

These are in addition to the recent announcement that face masks must be worn when using public transport and shops.

The new rules would mean the introduction of vaccine passports for events with over 10,000 people in attendance, meaning they will be needed to enter the Emirates, Stamford Bridge and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Exemptions will be in place for those under the age of 17 as will those who are unable to get the vaccine for medical purposes.

The Government claim that the move to implement vaccine passports at large events such as football games is a method of ensuring fans are not shut out again.

In a post on Gov.UK outlining Plan B back in September, they wrote: "Mandating vaccine-only certification could allow settings that have experienced long periods of closure to remain open, and is preferable to closing venues entirely or reimposing capacity caps or social distancing."
