Marina Wheeler, ex wife of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, appeared on Good Morning Britain where she said it had been a "difficult and traumatic" couple of years dealing with her divorce and cancer battle.
The 56-year-old was married to Boris from 1993-2020, and he has now moved on with fiance Carrie Symonds, 32, with whom he shares a baby son, Wilfred.
Marina was promoting her new book, The Lost Homestead: My Mother, the Partition and the Punjab, in which she references her marriage of 25 years collapsing six months into writing the book.
Speaking to hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid, Marina revealed she has "found freedom" since her high-profile split.
"There is no getting away from the fact it's been a very traumatic and difficult couple of years," said Marina.
"Divorce, cancer, etc. Other people go through those things but I think so much in such a short space of time has been a great challenge."
Marina was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2019 and after two operations is now cancer free.
Speaking about life after her divorce, Ben asked: "Do you have more scope to be able to go and explore, your private life and personal life isn't being examined in such forensic detail?"
Susanna added: "Have you found freedom?"
"Yes absolutely," replied Marina, who did not mention Boris by name, but said: "The first time I went to Pakistan I was still married to him.
"It was very strained, with security concerns and all that.
"The second time was very different."
Susanna asked what she thought about the resignation of Boris' senior aide Lee Cain, reportedly due to pressure from Carrie.
Marina replied: "I have paid it zero attention," explaining she was only focusing on the publishing of her book.
