Boris Johnson's condition is 'improving' as he remains in intensive care due to coronavirus

Boris Johnson's condition is 'improving' and he is 'sitting up in bed' as he remains in intensive care due to coronavirus.

The Prime Minister has been receiving treatment at St Thomas' Hospital in London since Sunday evening.

He was taken to hospital after displaying persistent symptoms - 10 days after testing positive for Covid-19.

The update on Mr Johnson's condition was given by Chancellor the Exchequer Rishi Sunak during the daily coronavirus press conference.

Mr Sunak said Mr Johnson, who is not only his boss but also his friend, is receiving “excellent care”.

He said: “The latest from the hospital is the Prime Minister remains in intensive care where his condition is improving.

“I can also tell you that he has been sitting up in bed and engaging positively with the clinical team.

“The Prime Minister is not only my colleague and my boss but also my friend, and my thoughts are with him and his family.”
