'Boris Johnson’s cheeky chappie spin is irrelevant when kids are going hungry'

Our new Prime Minister pitched up in Manchester this weekend.

Boris Johnson used his first speech outside the capital to promise a new deal for the North.

The problem is, as was revealed seconds later, not much of it is new.

It was the usual bag of spin we have already come to expect from the flim-flam merchant who is running the show now.

Empty rhetoric, hollow promises and the same old, same old.

This is the Prime Minister of the post-expert age, where we don’t need facts or money or common sense.

Just elbow grease, optimism, and a sly smirk.

And anyone who points out the facts to him is wrong, a killjoy or doesn’t support Britain.

But it doesn’t work like that.

If Mr Johnson was a serious politician with a serious approach to this country’s problems, he would have done well to take a quick trip down the M56.

Because on the Wirral, serious work is going on.

The NEO Community is part of the Feeding Birkenhead Project.

Volunteers have spotted the problem of kids going hungry.

They have organised, sorted out premises, and have 500 people a week through their doors. It’s nothing short of inspirational.

And if Mr Johnson had have had the time – it would have been worth a visit.

Of course, in Britain in 2019 we shouldn’t be having to step in like this.

But we do. And Mr Johnson’s cheeky chappie spin is irrelevant.
