Are Boris Johnson's days numbered as British prime minister? If you had been reading the usually supportive British tabloids over the past few days, you would probably conclude that it's just a question of time, given the controversy over last year's Covid-rule-breaking Christmas party at Downing Street.
This week there will be a by-election: a vote on a new MP in what's been a safe Conservative seat since 1997. It's seen as a chance for the voters of North Shropshire in central England to deliver a verdict on how PM Boris Johnson is handling the Covid-19 pandemic and the post-Brexit world, as well as the cut and thrust of everyday politics – an area where he has been branded a liar more than once.
It's now been two years since Johnson won the general election for the Conservative Party with a landslide 80-seat majority. Would he be able to secure anything like that today? We put the question to our panel.
