Boris Johnson news - live: PMQs underway, as Ukraine ambassador urges UK drop visa barriers

Zelensky echoes Churchill in House of Commons speech: 'We will fight for our land, whatever the costs'

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace is set to offer an update on the situation in Ukraine after Prime Minister’s Questions today, the Commons has said.

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng will also make a statement on the government’s phasing out of Russian oil, which was announced on Tuesday.

It comes as Ukraine’s ambassador has called for the visa requirement to be lifted for refugees fleeing the war, but said it was “frankly” a matter for UK ministers to decide.

Vadym Prystaiko told the Commons Home Affairs Committee: “Very sensitive, I understand how sensitive it is for your society, especially after the immigration crisis, refugee crisis with Syrians, which we believe was manufactured by Russia pushing out these people from Syria, flooding with immigration, wave after wave, to Europe.

“That would definitely resolve all the issues, but how reasonable, how justified it is with your own system, that’s frankly for you to decide.

“We will be happy if all the barriers are dropped for some period of time when we can get maximum (numbers) of people, then we will deal with that.”
