Boris Johnson news: Lib Dems rage as judges keep Swinson out of TV debate with PM, after Arcuri turns on 'ex-lover' and another affair faces investigation

Boris Johnson has been branded a “liar of Trumpian proportions” ahead of his first head-to-head debate of the general election campaign with Jeremy Corbyn

Shadow foreign secretary, Emily Thornberry, made the remark in response to an article detailing falsehoods made by the prime minister during the campaign so far, including a claim to be building 40 new hospitals.

It comes as a Conservative donor also called on the publication of a Commons report on alleged Russian interference in UK democracy, adding: “People and country should know about that”.

Conservatives branded 'party of billionaires' by McDonnell

Labour is branding the Conservatives the “party of the billionaires”, revealing that almost one-third of the UK’s richest people have donated almost £52m.
No fewer than 48 of 151 members of the elite club have bankrolled the party over the last 14 years, according to a fresh analysis of funding – including 15 this year alone.
Meanwhile, almost £100bn will have been handed in tax breaks to the super-rich and big corporations by the end of the next parliament, Labour says.
John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, called the wealth of billionaires “obscene”, arguing it would take a newly qualified nurse 50,000 years to accumulate such a stockpile.
And he alleged: “It is also obscene that these billionaires are buying access and tax breaks to Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party.

Alexander Temerko, who has donated more than £1m to the party, said the Intelligence Security Committee (ISC) report should be published for “democracy reasons”.
“This report should be released, because if there is real Russian influence, people and country should know about that,” he told the BBC.
Downing Street has denied suggestions it is suppressing the report, claiming the PM would release it “due course”. But given parliament has been dissolved, “due course” will the ISC document will not be published until after the election.
Independent launches register to vote drive

Today The Independent issues a call for everyone to participate in the most important election for a generation – one that will decide the fate of Brexit and the country.
We don’t do this to back a particular outcome, but because we believe everyone’s voice should be heard.
With just a week to go to the 26 November deadline for registration to vote, more than 9 million people are believed to be missing from the electoral roll or not registered at their current address - with young people, ethnic minorities and the poor most likely to miss out on the chance to have their say.
