
Boris Johnson has denied saying that he would rather allow “bodies [to] pile high in their thousands” than impose another lockdown late last year.
Asked if he made the comments, the prime minister replied “no” before adding: “I think the important thing I think people want us to get on and do as a government is to make sure that the lockdowns work.”
As No 10’s briefing war with former top aide Dominic Cummings continues, the cabinet secretary Simon Case has been questioned by MPs on the public administration and constitutional affairs committee about various claims made by Mr Cummings.
The nation’s top civil servant said the high-profile investigation into the “chatty rat” who leaked details of the government’s Covid lockdown plans was unlikely to be successful. “I think it is probable that the team will not successfully identify the source,” he said.
