The official earliest date gyms can reopen in England

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced when gyms will be allowed to reopen in England.

Gyms, leisure centres and swimming pools fall under step 2 of the roadmap, meaning they'll be allowed to open from April 12 at the earliest.

There will be rules in place when gyms reopen, which mean that people will only be permitted to go on their own or with members of their own household.

But sports fans will be able to take part in outdoor activities before April.

From March 29, outdoor sports facilities - tennis and basketball courts - can reopen.

People will also be able to take part in “formally organised” outdoor sports, both children and adults.

Also opening from April 12, and falling under step 2, are hairdressers, nail salons, non-essential shops and outdoor attractions like theme parks and zoos.

The dates in the roadmap are at the earliest. There is no suggestion the government will agree to move them forward. The Government says this is because 'Businesses and the public need to be given notice of what’s happening.'
