'Boris Johnson must do all he can to bring home hero Brit fighters captured by Russia'

The war in Ukraine is not just bullets and bombs.

It’s lies, spin, misinformation.

Today as a British freedom fighter remains in Russian captivity after being injured fighting for his wife’s native country, his brother brands Putin a liar for claiming he is a mercenary and a spy.

Now Aiden Aslin is being treated like a spy rather than a POW. The connotations of this are chilling.

The Russians have shown they will stop at nothing. Aiden risks being held up as an example for other foreigners who have gone out to fight off the invaders.

News that another fighter - Shaun Pinner - has been captured adds more fear. It puts the government in a difficult position.

Mr Johnson has been quick to give his support to Kyiv and President Zelenskyy. He has pledged to stand by the beleaguered country, promising arms and aid.

The PM even flew out there last weekend to meet the President in person.

But now he has a tougher course to navigate. The government needs to do all it can to bring those fighters home.

It’s time for Mr Johnson to show his skill in the diplomatic arena.

Let’s hope for the sake of Shaun and Aiden - and the future of Ukraine - that he’s up to it.

Doggy horror show

It's bizarre to think that the latest must-have accessory is an animal.

That living things are being sold as sort of curios feels somehow Victorian.

But it is going on. A Sunday People investigation found more than 60 dog fertility clinics working in the UK.

In these places, breeders create strange breeds that sell for up to £40,000 each.

Many will suffer with chronic pain and assorted physical difficulties.

They need to be properly regulated, and perpetrators punished.

In the meantime, we can all help by not feeding the market for these poor creatures - and reporting those who try and sell them.

A ray of sunshine

For the first time in what seems like a long time, we’ve had a proper Easter Bank Holiday to enjoy.

The weather - so far - has even held up its end of the bargain and we’ve seen some sun.

We hope you’ve made the most of it.

However you’re spending the rest of this glorious time off - enjoy. And Happy Easter.
